Part 2: His Suffering
In part two of our series, The Road to Easter, Pastor Matt Rummage focused on His Suffering—the suffering of Jesus Christ—and why it was both intentional and essential.
First, we saw that Jesus’ suffering was the predetermined plan of God. From Genesis to the Gospels, Scripture shows that the cross was not a backup plan—it was God’s plan all along. His suffering fulfilled prophecy and displayed God’s sovereign will to rescue humanity.
Second, we were reminded that His suffering was necessary to secure redemption for the sinner. Our salvation required a perfect sacrifice, and only Jesus could bear the weight of sin. Through His wounds, we are healed; through His death, we are made alive.
This message helps us see the cross not only as a symbol of pain, but as a victory over sin and a pathway to eternal life.
